[Helping Parties to Negotiate Constructively and Effectively towards a settlement]

[Helping Parties to Negotiate Constructively and Effectively towards a settlement]

Yesterday, I attended a Zoom workshop conducted by the State Courts on the above topic.

Mr David Lim delivered it. The Zoom workshop was exciting, and it was about how a #Mediator can assist parties in negotiating. After all, the settlement is what the parties agree to.

The workshop was beneficial as often we come across parties, particularly litigants in person, coming for #mediation with little or no knowledge of negotiating, which results in an unsuccessful mediation or a less constructive settlement.

Helping parties to negotiate does apply to other than commercial cases, #divorce and community cases as well.

I have experienced this before, and parties look at me with a lost look, which puts me in an awkward position.

The panel discussion at the end of the workshop was equally enjoyable. We had a pool of panellists consisting of District Judges and Mr Rajan Chettiar, a seasoned family lawyer who shared valuable insights and cleared some of our questions.

I thank the State Courts and Mr David Lim for this workshop.
